A memorial service was held Friday, July 20, 2012, for former Longview City Councilwoman Sidney Bell Willis. She served as representative for District 3 from 2002 through 2011.
Mrs. Sidney Claire Bell Willis was born in Longview, Texas, to the union of Marvin Walter and Aubrey Lee (Cooper) Bell on January 17, 1936. She passed on July 15, 2012.
Sidney received a B.S. in Music from Texas College, a Masters in Music Therapy at Texas Souther University, and a Masters in Counseling and Guidance at Stephen F. Austin University. She was an educator in the Longview Independent School District for 43 years.
As a community leader, Sidney was involved in numerous efforts to improve the lives of all citizens of Longview. During the memorial service, Mayor Jay Dean declared Friday, July 20, 2012, to be "Sidney Bell Willis Day" in Longview, Texas.
