Volunteer Programs
Want to do something meaningful in the Longview community?
The City of Longview's Volunteer Center hosts several volunteer programs and projects intended to better the community. Caring individuals and groups play a vital role in community wellness. These programs depend on the efforts of volunteers for success. In addition to helping the community, another benefit is the satisfaction one can feel in knowing that their efforts have value.
You may volunteer inside a City department, participate in annual events, be an adopter, special projects like scouting activities, work independently or you may create a unique volunteer project.
There are many reasons to volunteer! One may find their "just right for me" activity working with children in the Partners in Prevention Programs or helping in the Public Library with the day to day functions. Volunteers for Computer Lab Classes sharpen their skills and learn new ones. Pawn Shop Detail volunteers assist the Criminal Investigation Division in recovering lost or stolen property. The Accessible Parking volunteers help enforce the Handicap Parking regulations around the city.
Many opportunities are available such as: Adopt a Park, Adopt a Flagpole or Adopt A School. You may choose a favorite park (if not already adopted) and care for it four times a year. Adopting a flagpole is a wonderful way to show your patriotic spirit. We take care of installing the flags and the adopter just furnishes the flags to us. Individuals and business plays a very significant part of the local school districts by adopting a school or class.
Levels of Volunteering
Level I Volunteers: These interests can include assisting with cleanups, adopting a park, street, median, or flag pole. Unique projects may include things such as special plants for a touch of seasonal color. Level I volunteering does not usually require a background check.
Level II Volunteers: These interests can include assisting inside an office, Longview Public Library, Green Street Recreation Center, Citizens On Patrol, Citizens Emergency Response Team, Partners In Prevention and many more choices. Background checks are required for Level II volunteering.
Background checks may be required for any volunteer opportunity.
Please Note: The City of Longview may change, end, or terminate a volunteer assignment at any time. Volunteers will have a trial and assessment period.
