Step Pay

The City of Longview values experience and job knowledge with our police officers.  Therefore, police officers receive steps based off their years of service from entry level through 19 years of service.  Each anniversary date the officer receives a level increase directly related to years of service.  For example, a new officer with no experience starts at Entry.  On the one year anniversary, the level moved to Police Officer 1.  This continues through the officer’s 19th year anniversary with the Police Officer 19 level.
The Longview Police Department also encourages advancement through a first line supervisor position of Sergeant, and a manager position of Lieutenant.  Similar to the Police Officer level, police officers that promote to either position begin at the Entry level.  On the 3 year, 6 year, and 9 year anniversaries of those ranks, the supervisor receives a level increase. Captains also receive a pay level increase at 4 year anniversary of that rank.
Those rank and pay levels for Police Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain are illustrated on the Step Pay Table.
