Police Reserves

The Longview Police Department is actively seeking dedicated men and women who are willing to serve the City of Longview on a volunteer basis as a Reserve Police Officer. Reserve officers perform many of the same duties as full-time police officers, but on a volunteer basis.

The purpose of the Reserve Officer Unit is to assist the department in safeguarding life and property, to uphold and enforce the law and apprehend offenders. Reserve officers supplement patrol operations and assist on special assignments and have assisted during special events such as: Holiday Patrols in the retail areas, the annual Christmas Parade, and security at local events. If you are interested in being one of Longview’s finest on a volunteer basis please view the following minimum requirements:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • The ability to speak Spanish is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 21 years of age. There is no maximum age limit.
  • Must be licensed as a Reserve Peace Officer or Peace Officer with the Texas Comission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)
  • Vision - Possess 20/20 vision, either corrected or uncorrected, in each eye. Uncorrected vision cannot exceed 20/100 in each eye, unless vision is corrected by use of contact lenses or glasses which must be worn while on duty and during all law enforcement activities. Must be free from dichromatic color blindness, night blindness and any other visual deficiencies or limitations.
  • Hearing - Possess hearing with less than 30 Db loss, either corrected or uncorrected in each ear. Uncorrected hearing cannot exceed 60 Db in each ear. 
  • Must have never been convicted of an offense above a Class B misdemeanor. No convictions for a Class B misdemeanor offense within the past 10 years.
  • No convictions for any family violence offense of any degree.
  • Must never have been or currently on a court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of Class B misdemeanor or for an offense of the grade of Class B misdemeanor within the past 10 years.
  • Must not currently be under indictment for a criminal offense.
  • Driving record must meet City of Longview standards. All applicants must possess or have the ability to obtain a Texas Driver's License.   • Must be of good moral character and have stable school/work/driving record.
  • Must not have been received a "dishonorable" or "bad conduct" discharge following a military court martial.
  • Must not have pending litigation criminal or civil (including divorce).
