Poverty is not a game. Poverty is a reality for more than 20,000 people living in Gregg County Texas. Participating in a poverty simulation gives individuals a glimpse into the daily struggles of poverty and the challenge of meeting goals while overcoming barriers. Each participant is given a persona - a single Mom, a college student, a working family - and failure to meet your goals could result in lost job, lost benefit or becoming homeless.
The Bridges Out of Poverty Training is a comprehensive approach to understanding poverty and provides tools for change. The Bridges model is being used in hundreds of communities across the U.S., including Longview.
