Could Longview one day be home to a 7,500-seat outdoor amphitheater featuring concerts from major musicians and other touring acts? A recent feasibility study suggests that there could be a market in Longview for such an entertainment venue.
The Longview Economic Development Corporation, in conjunction with City of Longview staff, is researched the possible construction of an outdoor amphitheater to serve as a concert and entertainment venue for the East Texas area. A feasibility study was conducted by consulting group Conventions Sports and Leisure (CSL) to determine the potential viability of the project, including factors such as appropriate sizing and potential marketability in East Texas.
The suggested site for the proposed amphitheater project is located along Interstate 20 near Estes Parkway. It is envisioned that the project could serve as a catalyst for redevelopment of the I-20 corridor.
The amphitheater is envisioned as a public private partnership. With the feasibility study complete, a private group of business leaders has volunteered to lead a fundraising effort to raise private and corporate dollars to construct the amphitheater. Additionally, long-term sponsorships would be sought for on-going operations.
