MLK Jr. Celebration

The annual Longview Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration includes a full weekend of activities celebrating the life, message, and dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  The activities are organized by the Office of Arts and Culture in collaboration with various city departments and community partners such as Arts!Longview,  Longview Ministerial Alliance,  Christus Good Shepherd,  Partners in Prevention, Unity and Diversity Committee, and others.

Opening Reception and Jazz Concert featuring Mack Guice and Low D

  • Friday,  January 13 at 6 p.m.
  • Longview Community Center,  500 E. Whaley St.
  • Reception at 6 p.m.; Concert at 7 p.m.  
  • Featuring Jazz pianist Mack Guice and Band, with opening performance by saxophonist Low D
  • Tickets are $10. Purchase online or at the door.

Community Festival

  • Saturday,  January 14 from Noon - 3 p.m.
  • Broughton Recreation Center, 801 S. MLK Jr. Blvd.
  • Vendors, Food, Children's Activities
  • Ribbon cutting for Broughton Recreation Center renovations at Noon.
  • Free to attend.  
  • Vendor spaces have been filled. 

Humanitarian Award Celebration

  • Saturday, January 14 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Parkview Baptist Church, 2014 S. Green St.
  • Celebration and Speaker Reverend James Webb.
  • Free. No registration required.

March from Broughton Park to Mt. Olive Baptist Church

  • Monday, January 16 at 11 a.m. 
  • March begins Broughton Recreation Center, 801 S. MLK Jr. Blvd. 
  • March concludes at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 306 S. MLK Jr. Blvd.
  • Free. No registration required. 

Interfaith Service

  • Monday,  January 16 at Noon at conclusion of March
  • Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 306 S. MLK Jr. Blvd.
  • Free. No registration required.

Buffalo Soldiers Revisited: History on Canvas

  • November 11, 2022 - April 15, 2023
  • Longview Museum of Fine Arts, 215 E. Tyler St.
  • An exhibition featuring works of art by noted Texas artist Bob Snead.
