Downtown construction shifts on High and Center

Beginning Monday, July 31, 2017, Center Street will be closed between Tyler and the alley immediately 150 feet north of Methvin. This will initiate Phase 3 which will be built in conjunction with Phase 2 construction from Methvin to Tyler. Please use caution while work is being completed. This street work is part of the 2011 Street Bond Fund. The project consists of reconstructing Center Street from Cotton to Whaley with curb and gutter, upgraded drainage inlets, sidewalks, signs, and water and sewer improvements.

Beginning Tuesday, August 1, 2017, the two westernmost lanes of High Street at the underpass will be closed to traffic from Tyler Street to Cotton Street.  Two-way traffic will be maintained.   The closure is necessary to make street pavement repairs, to install a brick veneer, and replace the sidewalk, curb and gutter. Drivers wishing to travel between Cotton and Tyler Street may use alternate routes along Whaley Street, South Street or Green Street.  Although two-way traffic will be maintained, left turns will not be allowed at Cotton nor at Tyler.  Please use caution if traveling this route due to heavy construction in the underpass.

These projects are being constructed by East Texas Bridge of Longview, Texas. If you have any questions related to construction please call the City’s Project Manager, Alton Bradley, at 903-237-1067.
