Dog Stolen in 2014 Returned to Owner

Kane

An English Bulldog stolen in 2014 was returned to it's owner after officers investigating a suspicious vehicle recovered the dog. Longview Police responded to the call in the 100 Block of South Access Road at 11:21 p.m. on September 24, 2017. When they arrived at the scene the vehicle was already gone but officers soon located the vehicle a short distance away in the parking lot of a local restaurant.

Police located the man seen in the vehicle earlier and he was identified as 33 year-old Cam Albert Robbins, of Union, Mississippi. Robbins was walking towards the vehicle and very unsteady on his feet as a result of being intoxicated. Robbins was arrested for Public Intoxication.

While officers were conducting their investigation they learned that the car had been reported stolen on September 23, 2017 from Philadelphia, Mississippi. Robbins was also charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle (State Jail Felony) and transported to the Gregg County Jail without incident.

Police also located a dog sitting in the front seat of the stolen car. Police transported the dog to the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center so the dog could be taken care of until they could determine who the dog belonged to. The next morning employees at the Center scanned the dog to see if it might have a microchip with owner information. They were able to locate a microchip and contacted the microchip company for more information. Police learned that the dog's name was "Kane" and his owner lived in Lone Star, Texas.

Police were able to use social media to find Kane's owner. The owner told the Center employees that this was the second time Kane had been stolen and returned to her. Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center made arrangements for Kane to be returned to her and she got her dog back on September 28, 2017.

We encourage anyone who has a pet to get them micro-chipped. Taking that extra step can mean the difference in getting your beloved pet back, just like this happy owner, even after several years have gone by.
