[ARCHIVED] Smoke Detectors Save Lives

smoke alarm

On February 19, 2018 the Longview Fire Department responded to 4314 Kennedy Trail for a residential structure fire. When the fire department arrived they found fire in the living room. The lone occupant was asleep in a back bedroom when she was alerted by the smoke detector.  It was determined that the fire started from an unattended candle that ignited the window curtain. There were no injuries reported.

The Longview Fire Department would like to stress the importance of having working smoke detectors in each sleeping room and the adjacent hallway. If you own your home and cannot afford to purchase smoke detectors you may contact Iesha Robinson at the Longview Fire Marshal’s Office to see if you qualify for a free detector. She can be reached at 903-237-1119
