Partners in Prevention is Bringing Mindfulness to Longview

Hope Talks

On October 23, 2018, Longview Partners in Prevention will be introducing Longview to mindfulness through our inaugural conference, Hope Talks. Hope Talks is designed for educators, social workers, counselors, nonprofit representatives, youth development leaders, and community leaders to provide innovative ideas that spark hope for a more compassionate, well-balanced community. The theme this year is “Making a More Mindful Community”.

Partners in Prevention will be bringing the founders of Holistic Life Foundation (HLF) of Baltimore, Maryland to be the Hope Talks keynote speakers. This nonprofit organization is committed to "nurturing the wellness of children and adults in underserved communities." HLF has been featured in Oprah's magazine, CNN, CBS, and PBS for the innovative work they are doing with youth. Holistic Life Foundation defines mindfulness as “the combination of awareness, centering, and being present. It is the awareness of your thoughts, emotions, actions, and energy. It is the ability to get centered and stay centered in all situations. And it is the ability to be present, not letting internal and external distractions take you from the current moment. This leads to the development of empathy, compassion, love, balance, and harmony."

Hope Talks will also feature breakout sessions by: Toni Dussex, owner of Freedom Yoga, Inc.; Vickie Echols, M. Ed,
consultant, leadership coach and co-founder of The LIMES Project: Learning Is Mindful, Emotional and Social; Kathy Newsom, M.Ed., consultant, yoga instructor and co-founder of The LIMES Project; Winsted Psychology Services; and Shalonda Adams of the Pine Tree ISD PACE Campus.

Partners in Prevention seeks to continue sparking hope within the Longview community, and welcomes anyone who is looking for innovative ideas, community collaboration, and hope to attend Hope Talks on October 23, 2018 at Maude Cobb Convention Center, 100 Grand Blvd., from 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM. Get Early Bird tickets for $35 before August 23rd, 2018 (lunch is included in the ticket price). Purchase tickets on Eventzilla. For more information, please call 903-237-1019.
