On December 31, 2018 at approximately 11:30 p.m., Longview Deputy Fire Marshal David Harris was north bound on Pine Tree Road, en-route to a call in reference to a fireworks disturbance call, when he was almost struck by a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed headed south in the turn lane. Deputy Fire Marshal Harris attempted to stop the vehicle on Loop 281 at the railroad tracks just south of W. Marshall Avenue when the vehicle began swerving into on-coming traffic and continued at a high rate of speed in excess of 90 mph. The vehicle, an F-150 pickup, continued south on Loop 281 failing to stop at the red traffic light at the Hwy 31 off ramp where it collided with another vehicle. Both the driver of the F-150 and the driver of the passenger car were transported to the hospital by ambulance. The driver of the F-150 was later released from the hospital and was arrested for Evading Arrest and Intoxication Assault, both are felony charges.
