On January 10, 2019 the Longview Fire Department responded to 616 Oakdale Avenue for a residential structure fire. Units arrived and found heavy smoke showing from the exterior of the structure. Upon entry they found fire throughout the structure with extension into the attic. The fire was extinguished with no reported injuries. There were no working smoke detectors found inside the home. It was determined that the cause of the fire was related to an unattended cooking pot left on top of the stove. Seven persons were displaced as a result of the fire. The damage is estimated at approximately $100,000.00.
Unattended cooking fires remain one of the leading causes of residential structure fires in America. Citizens are reminded to use cooking appliances responsibly and always have working smoke detectors in your home.
