The City of Longview Partners in Prevention, Coalition for Drug-Free Youth released a survey on Friday, May 10, 2019, to gather information on substance misuse in Longview.
“This survey isn’t just any survey. It helps guide the Coalition’s presentations, informational booths, and education on youth substance misuse throughout the year. It’s a tool that can help save lives,” Coalition Coordinator Whitney Pierce said.
The Community Needs Assessment (CNA) is an annual survey given by the Coalition to measure the perception of risk and harm associated with drugs and alcohol by the citizens of Longview. The assessment, available in both English and Spanish, covers a variety of substances including alcohol, marijuana, synthetic drugs, prescription drugs, opioids, crack, heroin, methamphetamine, tobacco, and inhalants. The CNA also asks about knowledge of prevention resources in the community.
“Our goal this year is to collect 600 surveys by mid-June to have a more holistic representation of Longview. Each year, the Coalition uses the feedback from the assessment to determine the community’s needs,” Pierce said.
The Coalition encourages representatives across the community to give their opinion by taking the survey online at LongviewTexas.gov/CDFY. It is seeking responses from the medical community, faith communities, businesses, nonprofit organizations, schools, and other concerned citizens and youth. Paper copies of the survey are available at the Partners in Prevention Office on 140 E. Tyler St., #400. If your organization needs copies in bulk, please contact Whitney Pierce at 903-237-1019.
