LPD News

On August 6, 2019 at approximately 4:25 p.m., Longview police officers were dispatched to an accident in the 5300 block of W. Loop 281 near Birdsong. A 2004 Dodge truck was traveling NW on W. Loop 281 when it swerved to avoid striking a vehicle which made a wide right turn off of Birdsong onto Loop 281. The Dodge truck struck a 2005 Toyota Camry which was traveling South in the turn lane on Loop 281, preparing to turn East onto Birdsong. The Toyota Camry then struck a third vehicle, a 2014 Nissan Altima.

As a result of the crash, the front seat passenger of the Toyota Camry, Victor Velasquez, 28, and a 1 year old child suffered fatal injuries. The driver, Jenny Ledesma Resendiz, 21, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. A two year old child was transported to the hospital and subsequently flown to a Dallas hospital with serious injuries. The occupants of the Dodge truck and Nissan Altima did not suffer significant injury.

Officers are attempting to identify the non-contact vehicle that turned onto Loop 281 from Birdsong which did not stop at the crash. If anyone has any information regarding this crash, please contact Officer Rodney Smith of the Longview Police Department at 903-237-1188.
