[ARCHIVED] Longview Nonprofits Join Forces to Feed Pets

City of Longview News

Longview Community Ministries’ Food Box recipients may request a bag of dog or cat food once a month due to a new collaboration between Longview Community Ministries and Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center’s non-profit, PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving). LCM began storing and distributing pet food during the month of July and it has proven to be a much needed service.

According to LCM’s Executive Director Robin Fruia, “Many of our clients have pets in their home or as a companion on the street. When PAWS approached me about the idea of a partnership, I had no hesitations. It is very important to us that we provide quality nutrition for all family members and that will now include pets.”

Jackie Reynolds, Community Outreach Coordinator for the city animal shelter states, "LACAC and PAWS wanted to find a way to become more of a community resource for those in need. Our partnership with LCM made sense. Our supporters are so generous in providing food donations to our shelter. We wanted to take those resources and get them into the hands of those that truly need it. If providing a bag of food helps to keep an animal at home and out of our shelter, that's what we're here for.”

Longview residents who qualify for food assistance through LCM’s Food Box program may request a bag of dog or cat food once a month.  The public may drop off donations of any size pet foods at the Food Box during our hours of operation from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  For more information on all of Longview Community Ministries’ available services, please call us at 903-753-3561
