According to store employees a black male, later identified as Gary Lee Nelson 47 of Longview, shoplifted a large amount of items from the store. When Nelson attempted to leave the store, loss prevention confronted Nelson and Nelson struck the store employees with a tube of caulking, and a fight ensued. The white male, later identified as Bobby Ervin Nickoles 43 of Longview, got out of the car and struck one of the store employees. After hitting the employee, Nickoles ran back to his car and attempted to leave. However, Nelson was still fighting with the employees and Nickoles got back out of his car and threatened the employees with a steel pipe, causing them to release Nelson. At that point both Nelson and Nickoles got into the car and fled the scene. Police spotted the car a short time later near the 1900 Block of Sunshine Square. Both men were taken into custody following a short foot pursuit and the store's items were recovered. Nelson and Nickoles were transported to the Gregg County Jail without further incident and charged with Robbery F/2.
