The City of Longview Partners in Prevention’s Unity and Diversity Committee will have their monthly meeting Monday, October 5, 2015 at Noon in the Moeschelle Room at the Longview Public Library. The guest speaker this month isVanessa Hernandez, Co-pastor at Vidas Revolucionadas and radio personality on Radio Vida 92.7.

Keeta King, liaison to the Unity and Diversity Committee said, “We look forward to Vanessa allowing us an inside look into the richness of her culture. What better way to continue celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and kick off National Diversity Month?”
A light snack will be provided. All community members with and passion for unity and diversity are welcome to attend.

Committee History: The Unity and Diversity Committee was originally conceived as the Race Relations Committee in 1995 by community members who were concerned by the lack of open and honest dialogue about race relations in our community. The Committee believes that a fundamental goal of a just society is equal opportunity and fair treatment of its members. It was the resolution of the members to create a setting conducive to critical evaluation of local, state, and national race relations. The transition from the Race Relations Committee to the Unity and Diversity Committee was a logical, organic step in a developing community’s responsibility to recognize the needs of a diversifying population of residents.
