At or around 8:30 pm Sunday night, fire crews responded to 1100 6th Street for a residential structure fire. Upon arrival all 7 occupants,? 2 adults and 5 children were outside. The fire originated in a bedroom as a result of a space heater that was too close to the bed. The occupants who were in the living room smelt smoke, and existed the? structure. There were no working smoke alarms in the residence. The occupants were displaced by the fire and the Red Cross provided? assistance to the family. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. As a reminder: space heaters "need space" a distance of 3' from ?combustibles is a minimum distance needed between combustibles such as ?furniture, bedding materials, and drapes.
