Tonight at the City Council meeting Chief Mike Bishop presented Mark and Keith Peters with certificates of appreciation and LPD challenge coins for their assistance in apprehending a runaway that was attempting to escape from police. In general, law enforcement expects citizens to be good witnesses, observe and report illegal activity and only get involved in a situation when someone’s life may be in danger. Mark and Keith Peters went above and beyond what is asked of any Longview citizen and I believe the safe apprehension of this runaway was a direct result of their actions. Thank you for assisting your officers when you felt there was a need to intervene and act on their behalf.
On December 4, 2015 Longview Police were dispatched to a Suspicious Person call near BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse near the Longview Mall. According to the reporting party there were 3 young males with backpacks looking into vehicles. Officers soon located the three individuals. While officers had the three detained continuing their investigation, one of the three broke away and fled from officers on foot.
Longview citizens Mark Peters, and his brother Keith Peters, saw the individual fleeing from the police officers. They quickly exited their vehicle and were able to catch, and hold, the juvenile until officers were able to get to them and take the juvenile into custody. Police learned during this time that all three of the juveniles were runaways out of Houston, Texas. They were later reunited safely with their families in Houston.
