[ARCHIVED] Drink, Drive, Go to Jail

Drink. Drive. Go to Jail.

Longview Police will be increasing our DWI, Speed, and Seatbelt enforcement efforts over the next couple of weeks due to Spring Break and continuing that additional enforcement throughout the summer.

Additional officers will be working the streets with the sole purpose of locating impaired drivers, vehicle occupants not wearing their seatbelts, and motorists who exceed the speed limit. Officers will be paid with funds provided by the Texas Department of Transportation for a Selective Traffic Enforcement Program. These grants provide funding
to police agencies across the state to put more officers on the streets looking for violators.

In 2014, more than 1,041 people died in alcohol impaired driving crashes across Texas. Another 14,552 people received injuries as a result of alcohol impaired crashes. In 2015, the Longview Police Department arrested 269 drivers for DWI. So far in 2016, 49 drivers have been arrested for DWI in Longview. Also, seatbelt surveys conducted in Longview indicate the 1 and 10 drivers fail to wear their seatbelt.

The Longview Police Department asks that you drink responsibly by using designated drivers, slow down, and please wear your seatbelt.
