City Considers Removing Two Traffic Signals on Whaley Street

Whaley and Fredonia Streets Intersection

Beginning Wednesday, April 12, drivers on Whaley Street in downtown will have two new four-way stops as the City considers removing traffic signals at two intersections.

A recent Traffic Signal Warrant Analysis identified that the signals where Whaley Street intersects with Fredonia and Center Streets weren’t warranted by any of the nine warrant factors examined.  These factors include 8-hour volume, 4-hour volume, peak volume, pedestrian volume, crash experience, and others.

On April 12, the City will bag all the signal heads at these intersections and install temporary 4-way stop signs.  The City will review traffic at the intersections for 60 days using the 4-way stop, and if no safety concerns are identified, will remove the signals and install permanent traffic signs.
