UPDATE: This event has been canceled.

In celebration of World Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, Partners in Prevention’s Unity and Diversity Committee will host a special and free event including fun, interactive games in both English and Spanish and the reading of the new children’s book, “Lucian The Wonderful Wolf,” by Jonathan Carnley. The book is colorfully illustrated with characters from various backgrounds and ethnicities.

The event will be at the Longview Public Library, 222 W. Cotton St., on Saturday, May 20. Four games, such as picture BINGO and Corn Hole Toss, will be led by Foster Middle School students of the youth group B.R.A.V.E. (Being Respectful and Against Violence Everywhere). The games will begin at 2 p.m. The book reading will start at 3 p.m. in both English and Spanish.

A photo opportunity will follow the reading and ends at 3:30 p.m. with the real-life Lucian, Mr. Carnley’s service animal that serves as an extra pair of eyes for his human. Lucian will be available to “sign” books purchased at the event. Books will be available to purchase for $12. Payments can be made with Cash App, Venmo, Zeal, and cash. Limited snacks and drinks will be available.

“This event is a unique way to mix different cultures, fun, and education in the same room. Lucian is a gentle animal that loves everyone regardless of their gender or race,” said Unity and Diversity Committee Coordinator Paula Jimenez.
