[ARCHIVED] City At Elevated Fire Danger Risk

Fire News Flames

The City of Longview is experiencing an elevated fire danger risk due to very hot temperatures and extremely dry conditions.

Burning is never allowed within city limits and both Gregg and Harrison counties have issued burn bans.

“We are monitoring conditions 24/7 and are ready to respond as required, but we need our residents' help,” Longview Fire Chief J.P. Steelman said. “ Even barbecues and grills pose a potential fire hazard when it is this hot and everything is so dry. We’re one bad spark away from a real situation.”

The Texas Division on Emergency Management provides helpful fire prevention tips at Ready.gov/Wildfires.  These tips include:

  • Avoid activities that cause sparks
  • Observe active local burn bans
  • Call 911 if you spot wildfire
