On Thursday, August 25, 2016 the Longview Police Department will begin offering its citizens another way to interact with the Police Department. The Police Department has purchased a new mapping program from Geographic Technologies Group. This new software will make it possible for the public to have access to information about locations where reports have been filed, as well as being able to obtain some crime stat information right at their fingertips.
This new interactive crime mapping software will give citizens the ability to gain access to the data they are looking for on their desktop or mobile device. Citizens will have the option to sign up for email notifications for activity that is occurring in a specific area for almost immediate access to the information they are looking for. This will also help those doing research on crimes within the City to be able to access that information 24 hours a day. Information will be updated once every 24 hours. The Police Department encourages its citizens to visit the website and try out the program. Certain crimes, such as sexual assault, will not be included on the map to protect the victim and their privacy. To access the mapping program go to: LongviewTexas.gov/CrimeMap
