At or around 9:44 am on Sunday, October 30th, fire crews responded to 2500 LaFamo Rd. Lot 10 ½ for a residential mobile home fire. On arrival, fire crews found a man with burns and respiratory injuries due to fighting the bed room fire with a water hose. The patient was a few feet inside the mobile home when the initial fire crew arrived. The fire crew took him to the porch and began treatment for the burns. The patient was transported to GSMC, then to Parkland for the burns and respiratory injuries.
The fire started in the bedroom causing major damage to the room and contents, and heavy smoke damage throughout. The structure damage is estimated at approximately $20, 000. The cause of the fire was linked back to a juvenile playing with a lighter. Two additional children who were asleep on the bed in the bedroom were able to get out without injury. The fire displaced four residents.
Safety tips to prevent this type of injury and loss:
1. Keep lighters and matches out of the reach of children.
Have working smoke alarms in each sleeping room and adjacent hallway(s).
2. When a fire occurs, get low, get out, and stay out. While fire may be causing damage to belongings’ and the structure, it is an environment that can cause death or life long injuries.
