The Longview Police Department has received the approval of the City Council to provide one officer to the East Texas Area Safe Streets Task Force. This Task Force is under the direction of the FBI. The mission of the Safe Street Task Force is to identify and target for prosecution criminal enterprise groups responsible for drug trafficking, money laundering, alien smuggling, crimes of violence such as murder, aggravated assault, robbery, and violent street gangs, as well as the apprehension of dangerous fugitives where there is, or may be, a federal investigative interest.
Chief Mike Bishop wants the public to know that “LPD has had a longstanding relationship with the FBI and sees this as an opportunity to formalize the relationship between the agencies and maximize inter-agency cooperation.”
